Privacy
This is a personal site run by one person. It sells nothing, runs no advertising, and shares nothing with data brokers. This page describes exactly what happens when you visit, written from what the code actually does rather than from a template.
What the site collects
If you subscribe to the newsletter
The email address you type, and a first name if you give one, are sent to Loops.so, the service that stores the list and sends the emails. That is the only reason the address is collected, and it is the only thing the form sends. Nothing else on the page is attached to it. Every newsletter carries an unsubscribe link, and you can ask me to delete the address at any time.
Page views
The site uses Vercel Web Analytics to count visits. It is cookieless and it does not build a profile of you or follow you to other sites. It tells me which pages people read and roughly where in the world they are, in aggregate. There is no Google Analytics here, no advertising pixel, and no session recording.
Server logs
The site is hosted on Vercel, which keeps short-lived request logs including IP addresses, as any web host does. They exist to keep the site running and to stop abuse. One place uses an IP address deliberately: the admin login is rate limited per IP so that nobody can guess the password by brute force. Those counters hold an IP and an attempt count, nothing else, and they expire.
What is stored in your browser
Two small values, both in local storage, both readable only by this site, and neither of them an identifier:
- Your light or dark theme choice, so the site does not flash the wrong one on the next visit
- A flag recording that the newsletter popup has already been shown, so it does not appear again
There is no cookie banner here because the site sets no tracking cookies to ask you about. The one cookie that exists is an encrypted session cookie for the admin panel, and it is only ever set for me when I log in to edit the site.
Embedded content on event pages
Some event pages embed videos and posts from YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook. Those embeds are loaded from the companies that run them, and once you interact with one, that company can set its own cookies and see that you loaded it. That is their behavior, not mine, and their privacy policies govern it. Nothing else on this site talks to a third party.
Who else sees any of this
- Vercel: hosting, request logs, and cookieless analytics
- Neon: the Postgres database holding the site's own content
- Loops.so: newsletter addresses, only if you subscribe
That is the whole list. Nothing is sold, rented, or handed to advertisers. Data would only be disclosed further if a valid legal order required it.
Your choices
Email ok@osama.me and ask me what I hold about you, ask for a copy, or ask me to delete it. I will do it. For the newsletter, the unsubscribe link in any email does it instantly. Clearing this site's data in your browser removes the two local storage values. Nothing here requires an account, so there is no account to close.
Children
This is a professional portfolio aimed at adults. It is not directed at children, and I do not knowingly collect anything from them.
